Bio

Jamien was born in Clarksdale, MS but was raised on the campus of Tougaloo College, Jackson, MS; where his mother served as a Language Arts Professor. He moved to Memphis, TN at age 8 and this is where his passion for the shoe industry/business began. Jamien Sills has been in the Shoe-making industry for close to 3 decades. His passion for shoes began from his early years watching his Sports hero adorn amazingly beautiful footwear. After his graduation from Washington University in St. Louis, he decided to follow his heart and work in a Shoe start-up Company. This window gave him the opportunity to visit China and learn firsthand what goes into the making of Shoes. His fascination, lessons learned and experiences began to grow into a deep resolve to raise the standards of the shoe making business. The spread of his expertise has seen him work from the bottom of the Shoe business to executive management levels.

He was a freelance designer and also served as the co-owner/creative director for the Game Time Athletics footwear Company. Presently, Jamien expresses his passion in his role as the Founder/CEO of HEROS Footwear located in Memphis, TN. His strength lies in his ability to blend creativity and adapt new contexts to solve various footwear problems. Every facet of the shoe-making business is considered to be an outlet to showcase his versatility and expertise to the world. Jamien is a frontline player in keeping to the values that is making the footwear industry a force to reckon with in the world.

Began designing shoes at the age of eight

Worked within the shoe industry since the age of 15, moving from labor to management to corporate executive/owner

Spent 3 years in mainland China studying footwear design and manufacturing, working/experimenting in the factories and building relationships with manufacturers

Provided creative direction for Game time Athletics footwear Company

Won the 2004 Reebok “Design Your Own Kicks” footwear design contest

Designed the footwear and co-starred in the documentary film, “Sole of A Hustla”

Featured in the chapter and accompanying documentary film for the book “Creating Innovators” by Tony Wagner

Coach/Mentor for both the Memphis Youth Leadership program and Project Challenge which teach leadership, business and life skills to “at risk” students ages 14-18
